Welcome to our web site.
We began as a small artisan bakery located in the heart of Manhattan's Upper
West Side. We first opened our doors on December 16, 1995. Levain
Bakery was founded by Connie McDonald and Pamela Weekes. Because
the bakery is a small neighborhood place, where everything is made on
the premises, visitors are able to watch the entire production of all the
breads and cookies.
Fast forward two years to October 22, 1997. The New York Times
writes "From a Small Bakery, a Virtual Mountain of a
Cookie." Calls come in from all over the country.
Fast forward to 1998, when finally we are able to make our
cookies available to everyone, not just those who are lucky enough to
be able to visit us at the bakery.
Fast forward to June 24, 2000 when we opened our second location in
Wainscott, New York (perhaps better known to many as the Hamptons). Here,
we have an amazing space to better accommodate the growing demand for
cookies by mail and to develop additional cookie varieties.
Yes, by mail order you can really treat yourself or someone you know
to cookies like you have never tried before! These cookies are amazing!
They are not just cookies, they are an indulgent experience. We do not
compromise. You are assured of receiving cookies made from the
freshest, finest ingredients. (Of course, there are no preservatives or
additives.) Each cookie weighs six ounces, almost half a pound - that's
a lot of cookie! And we make four varieties: Chocolate Chip Walnut,
Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, and Dark Chocolate
Peanut Butter Chip.
They are the perfect gift for the cookie connoisseur in your life, even
if that person is you.
